1. The agreement
These website terms summarise the main conditions of STRONGSEAT self-drive horse trailer hire. Your booking details, condition records and the hire agreement supplied for your booking form part of the agreement. Nothing in these terms affects statutory rights that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.
2. Driver and towing requirements
The hirer must hold the appropriate driving entitlement and use a roadworthy, legally suitable towing vehicle, towbar and electrical connection. Manufacturer towing limits must not be exceeded. The hirer is responsible for safe loading, towing and use of towing mirrors where legally required.
3. Insurance
The hirer must arrange suitable insurance for the hired trailer for the full hire period and provide evidence of cover before collection where requested. The towing vehicle's motor insurance must also permit towing. STRONGSEAT does not arrange, sell or advise on insurance and may refuse release if appropriate cover is absent.
4. Collection, condition and safety
The trailer should be inspected at collection and its condition may be recorded by photographs or video. Before setting off and during use, the hirer must check the coupling, breakaway cable, electrics, lights, tyres, wheels, jockey wheel, ramps, doors, catches, partitions and retaining bars. Use must stop immediately if the trailer may be unsafe.
5. Permitted use
The trailer is for lawful horse transport and related equestrian purposes unless agreed otherwise in writing. It must not be sub-hired, lent, overloaded, deliberately or recklessly misused, modified, used by an unauthorised driver or taken outside Great Britain without prior written permission. Security or tracking devices must not be removed or interfered with.
6. Payments and deposits
A £20 booking deposit is part-payment of the hire charge. A separate £150 refundable security deposit applies. Reasonable deductions may be made where permitted by the signed hire agreement, for example for evidenced damage, missing equipment, exceptional cleaning or other direct losses for which the hirer is responsible.
7. Cancellation and availability
Any cancellation charge or retained advance payment will be reasonable and reflect actual or reasonably anticipated direct loss, taking account of STRONGSEAT's ability to re-hire. If STRONGSEAT cancels because the trailer is unavailable, unsafe or unusable through no fault of the hirer, amounts paid for the unavailable hire will be refunded.
8. Damage, loss and return
The hirer is responsible for reasonable losses directly resulting from negligence, misuse or breach of the hire agreement. The trailer and supplied equipment must be returned at the agreed time and in the required condition. Problems, faults, accidents, theft or damage must be reported promptly.
9. Horses and personal property
The hirer is responsible for deciding whether a horse is fit and suitable to travel and for appropriate loading, securing and management. Horse transport carries inherent risks. The hirer is also responsible for tack, equipment and other belongings placed in the trailer. Nothing excludes STRONGSEAT's liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
10. Privacy and governing law
Personal information is handled in accordance with the STRONGSEAT Privacy Policy. The hire agreement is governed by the law of England and Wales, subject to applicable consumer rights.
